YKK Snap Fasteners America has two basic lines of hook and eye products. The #8 hook with the #85 eye is designed for blind application. The hook plate and the eye plate should be enclosed in the waistband. With this in mind, it is easy to understand that there is very little need for (or opportunity for) color or logo enhancement. This line is most often used on slacks, trousers and dress pants.

The #10 hook and eye affords the designer much greater flexibility. It is designed to be attached with a 2-prong fastener. The hook is usually fastened with a capped fastener. This cap, if metal, can be logo enhanced, plated, painted in one of our many standard colors, or 'painted to match'. If the cap is nylon, it may be gloss or matte, and 'dyed to match'. Rubber snap tops are also available. For many examples of possible tops, see the "SX" Snaptop Standard Designs and Finishes Chart., "SX" Snaps., or any of the pages under Snaps that lead fashion the world over. The eye is usually applyed blind using a plain 18 ligne 2-prong fastener. But, by using a snap top to fasten both the hook and the eye, this system is easily applied to reversible garments.

In the schematics below, the side views have been colored gold to empasize that each one of these items is formed from a single piece of metal. The other view has been tinted in shades of grey. The lightest shades are nearest the viewer.

The most common practice is to fasten the #10 hook with a "SK" snap top and the #10 eye with a 18 ligne 2-prong fastener.
